Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West Continues To Monitor Hurricane Delta

MARRERO, La. (Oct. 9) – The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West (SLFPA-W) continues to carefully monitor Hurricane Delta in the Gulf of Mexico and will be complete with the closure of all required land based HSDRRS gates no later than noon today.

Hurricane Delta continues to threaten the Louisiana coast as a Category 3 hurricane. The track has shifted slightly eastward and the storm is expected to make landfall as a Category 2 close to Grand Chenier. The storm will bring impacts to the SLFPA-W area of responsibility beginning today and continuing into early Saturday. We remain under both a Storm Surge and Tropical Storm Warning.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7 and will remain active for the duration of the event. The sector gates on navigable waterways will be operated when the established trigger is met, and we continue to monitor the levels for changing conditions.

Below is a summary of the current gate status throughout our system. More detailed information, including the locations and up to date status of floodgates are on our website at: http://slfpaw.org/floodgate-summary
