SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA FLOOD PROTECTION AUTHORITY – WEST GATE CLOSURE STATUS REPORT 2

MARRERO, La. (June 6) – The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West (SLFPA-W) continues to carefully monitor the Tropical Storm Cristobal in the Gulf of Mexico.

Based on storm and wind probability projections by the National Weather Service (NWS), the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority has begun closure of non-essential floodgates and valves.

SLFPA-W Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be fully activated beginning Saturday, June 6 and equipment is being prepared in advance of Tropical Storm Cristobal.

All floodgates along Peters Road will be closed Saturday, June 6, with the exception of Boomtown and HC-18 (FMT materials), which will be closed on Sunday, June 7, along with the Bayou Segnette boat launch. The decision to close Highway 45 will be made in the afternoon on Saturday, June 6.

19 floodgates on the Mississippi River will remain open. The area SLFPA – W manages is currently under a storm surge warning. SLFPA – W will continue to notify Mariners and the public of gate closures via text messages, Twitter and Facebook.
