West Bank voters in Jefferson Parish will be asked to renew a 4.75 millage for the West Jefferson Levee District on March 29, 2025.
As the operator for the West Jefferson Levee District, the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West (SLFPA-W) operates and maintains the West Bank and Vicinity – Hurricane & Storm Damage Risk Reduction System, which is comprised of 80 miles of levees, floodwalls and floodgates, as well as three navigable sector gates and pumping stations.
More than 250,000 residents live within the West Bank flood protection system, and the work SLFPA-W does year-round protects them, along with $41 billion in homes, schools and businesses.
This is a millage renewal and will not increase costs for households. This millage has directly funded $23 million in levee lifts and improvements to the federal flood control system on the West Bank.
A renewal of the millage will continue to fund capital improvements, critical major maintenance, and repairs to the flood control system, including levee lifts, as well as system equipment upgrades and sector gate refurbishment. Together, this vital work helps ensure that the West Bank continues to have the best flood protection system in its history. To find election day voter information, visit Elections & Voting.
