SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA FLOOD PROTECTION AUTHORITY – WEST CONTINUES TO CLOSE FLOODGATES IN PREPARATION FOR TROPICAL STORM SALLY

MARRERO, La. (Sept. 14) – The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West (SLFPA-W) has fully activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as of 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14. The EOC will remain active for the duration of the event.

The jurisdictional area of SLFPA-W continues to be under both a hurricane and storm surge warning. SLFPA-W is actively closing floodgates in preparation for Tropical Storm Sally. Currently, 24 out of 67 floodgates are closed and 20 gates on the Mississippi River will remain open. All hurricane system gates will be closed today, Monday, September 14, with the expectation that the Boomtown gates will be closed at 5:00 p.m. and floodgates at Bayou Segnette State Park will close by 12:00 p.m. The gates at the 404c floodwall at the Old Estelle Outfall Canal are closed. Due to the shifting track of Tropical Storm Sally, it is unlikely that the West Closure Complex will be operated for this event.
