Tropical Storm Nate is expected to shift westward overnight, increasing the likelihood of direct tropical impacts this weekend. As previously stated, Tropical Storm Nate is expected to gain strength as it enters the northern Gulf of Mexico and become a hurricane by Saturday.

The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-West (SLFPA-W) is monitoring Tropical Storm Nate, which currently has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and moving northwest at 9 mph. The National Weather Service is predicting that our area will entail potential rainfall of 3-6 inches and winds in the 40 mph range this weekend. Areas outside of the Hurricane Protection System may see storm surge of 4-6 feet above normal.

At this time, the West Closure Complex and Bayou Segnette Sector Gates remain open; however, the SLFPA-W is continuing to close non-essential gates.
