Phil Valent is a Marine Geotechnical Engineer recently retired after 48 years of full time employment, five with consulting engineer firms and the remainder with US Navy research laboratories. Early experience included supervision of earth fill construction and deep drilled pier foundations. Work for the Navy included designs for anchoring/mooring of deep ocean floating and submerged platforms, placement and burial of cables and pipelines, and research in performance of seafloor mobility systems. Phil retired from the Naval Research Laboratory in 2014, having served for 15 years as Associate Superintendent of the Marine Geosciences Division.
